Measurements tables used by Valentina are managed in additional sofware Tape, automatically installed with Valentina software.

To create, change or delete measurements, open Tape : directly open Tape sofware, or in Valentina : Measurements → Open Tape.

PreferencesEdit

Before creating any table of measurements, set preferences properties in File → Preferences.

In the 'Configuration' panel, select :

  • GUI language (works exactly as in Valentina),
  • pattern system if necessary (very useful if you want to share your patterns in a workteam),
  • default height and size for multimeasurements.

In the 'Paths panel', set each folder path for measurements, patterns and templates, according to paths set in Valentina (otherwise Valentina cannot find the folder). You can specify any folder path, for example a path pointing to a storage unit.

Creating a new table of measurementsEdit

Creating a new table of measurementsEdit

Right-click 'New' in the panel or File → New.

A dialog box opens.

Select :

  • Unit to use : centimeters, millimeters, or inches.

Creating a new table from an existing table, or from an existing patternEdit

Having created a new file, use File → Create from existing OR Measurements → Import from a pattern if you want to create a table containing only the measurements you used in a specific pattern..

The Measurements folder opens, select the appropriate file (table of measurements or existing pattern).

The table opens, displaying each measurements name, with values to zero.

Fill in each value, save as as a new measurements file, and exit.

Individual measurementsEdit

The table comes with a blanck area :

Select :

  • 'Add known' if you want to use the measurement diagram, see #Database ;
  • 'Add custom' if you want to use your own measurement diagram.

Several fields have to be filled in :

  • name : abbrevation or acronym of the measurement, don't choose a too long name ;
  • calculated value : a fixed, or calculated value resulting from existing measurements (for example, shoulder dart = 1/12 bust circumference, if bust circumference has been previously defined) ;
  • Full name : without abbreviation ;
  • Description : whatever you want, basically the way to take the measurement on the body.

When all measurements are stored, save the file in the folder specified in 'Preferences'.

Multisize measurementsEdit

Note that this mode applies to proportionnal evolutions in grading, so create several multisize tables or several individual size tables if the evolution between each size does not apply the same increment value.

The table comes with a blanck area.

Don't forget to specify the default height and size in the bottom left panel, otherwise Tape will calculate increments according to a wrong basis, and all measurements will be incorrect.

Select :

  • 'Add known' if you want to use the measurement diagram, see #Database ;
  • 'Add custom' if you want to use your own measurement diagram.

Several fields must be filled in :

  • name : abbrevation or acronym of the measurement, don't choose a too long name ;
  • base value : a fixed value (no calculated value can be specified in this mode), for the default height and size pattern ;
  • value in sizes : increment from size to size ;
  • value in height : increment from height to height ;
  • full name : without abbreviation ;
  • description : whatever you want, basically the way to take the measurement on the body.

When all measurements are stored, save the file in the folder specified in 'Preferences'.

DatabaseEdit

Tape comes with implemented diagrams allowing to choose numerous predefined types of measurements.

When clicking on 'Add known', the diagram panel opens, and you can select each wanted measurement, when clicking ok, all measurements appear in the table panel with values fixed to zero, and the images representing the diagram.

Fill in each value, save and exit.

General pointsEdit

  • Information about table

Information about each measurements file can be stored in the 'information' panel : measurement table type, patternmaking system, customer name / birth date / gender / email.

These informations can be used in Valentina in label templates.

  • Read only (File → Read only)

This fonction can be used to avoid changes or deletes in the table by shared users, for example.

  • Changing / deleting measurements

Measurements can be changed or deleted by left-clicking on each recorded data (if 'Read only' unchecked), then change existing values or click on '-' box.

  • Exporting and importing to/from CSV files

Tables can be exported as CSV files to be used in spreadsheets, and CSV files can be imported as well to create new tables.

"Be careful to choose correct parameters for export and import allowing compatible use of the data."
